Changing Your Relationship with Food II
Yesterday we discussed how you can get back in touch with what true hunger is by using a hunger scale. Today I want to take this one step farther to get in touch with how your body wants to be fed.
We have learned so many rules for dieting that we often eat to lose weight instead of eating to properly fuel our body. By getting in touch with how your body wants to eat you will break down your body’s resistance to change and you will find that your frustration level drops along with your weight.
It will be important to start this exercise after a meal. Ask yourself how your body feels. Was the meal you just had satisfying? Do you feel energized by eating or lethargic? Next, ask yourself if there was any way you could have changed the meal to improve how your body feels. You can continue to do this exercise after each meal throughout the day.
Be cautious not to let your mind start commenting on what you should have eaten. Your have learned many dieting rules over the years and you might feel yourself resisting the information your body is sending back to you. This resistance to your body’s natural wants and desires is what leads to frustration, by trusting your body and allowing it to be fed when it wants and what it wants you will be pleasantly surprised at how your diet improves and your weight naturally drops.
