“I Want to Lose Weight WITHOUT…
Everyday someone tells me, “I want to lose weight.” This is good, this shows that there is desire, and desire is the first step toward action, but wait… there is a problem. The problem is that most people who tell me this neglect to finish their statement. The real phrase sounds more like this, “I want to lose weight WITHOUT…” [fill in the blank]. This is what we REALLY want, we want to lose weight “without giving up potato chips”, we want to lose weight “without working out”, we want to lose weight “WITHOUT THE PAIN AND SACRIFICE!”
Man, I wish it where that simple, I really do, but it’s not. Losing weight takes effort, it takes commitment and it requires you to change what you are currently doing. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. If you are not currently losing weight, and you want to, then you have to stop doing the things you normally do and do something different.
This might require you to step out of your comfort zone and it will definitely require you to commit to making a change. You might realize that you need to start working out for an hour everyday, you might see that you need to stop filling your body with sugar in the afternoon, or you might need to go to bed an hour earlier.
One of my clients lost 50 pounds because it finally dawned on him that he had to change. At first he was very resistant to dieting and would have a few “good” eating days followed by a couple of “bad” ones. He was trying to outsmart his body and was constantly frustrated that his body wasn’t changing fast enough. But then he got it, he realized that if he wanted to lose weight he had to accept that he was 100% responsible for making the change, it didn’t matter if he wanted junk food, if he wanted to lose weight he had to do it himself. The instant he made this connection, his weight loss began and he dropped the 50 pounds in 12 weeks, and he has maintained that weight loss for close to two years.
What do you want? Are you willing to go get it? Accept that you have the ability to change and accept that change can be hard at times, and requires effort and sacrifice, but also know that change is the spice of life, it is what will propel you to the next level and it is what you want.
