Healthy Weight Loss that Works for 2008
We are so caught up in the weight loss craze that I would like to propose a new approach for 2008, how about we give up the fight. This is a thought that has been brewing in my mind for quite some time now and as I reflect back on 2007 my belief is reinforced. Follow my logic here, I have found that whenever I try to force something to happen it ends up back firing on me. For instance, every time I try to stay up late to get something done I wake up groggy the next day and accomplish very little for the next 24 hours.
Now don’t get confused, by giving up the fight I do not mean we just eat everything in sight, lay on the couch and get fat, what I mean is we stop fighting our natural inclinations and we start working with our bodies instead of against them. I know what you are thinking, “My natural inclination is to eat and eat and eat” that’s not true. We do have natural satiety signals in our body, we just choose to ignore them or override them. If we stop rebelling against our body and trying to force it to do things, we become more in tune with our needs, and I will be so bold as to propose that it will end binge eating, forced overeating, self-loathing, and chronic scale watching.
I want you to just take a moment here and think about what giving up the fight could mean.
-
No more fretting over how much you will weigh for an upcoming event
-
No more depression when the scale reads more than you expected
-
No more feeling self-conscious in social situations
-
No more feeling uncomfortably stuffed
-
No more feeling miserable
Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging here and make you figure out how to give up the fight all by yourself, I have a plan. Together this year we will walk through the steps needed to give up the fight and finally find that healthy weight loss plan that works for you.
-
The first thing you will need to do is to build your understanding of how giving up the fight can actually help you finally lose all the weight you have been hanging on to. How long have you been trying to lose weight? What have you tried? When you had some success did you turn right around and gain the weight back? Would you like to try something different so you can get a different result? Think about this, if you lost 2 ounces of body weight a day at the end of a month you would lose almost 4 pounds, that is close to 50 pounds in a year! Could you do what it takes to lose 2 ounces today?
-
Then we will want to create some boundaries that you can follow every day. These boundaries will allow you to always move forward toward your goal instead of taking one step forward and one step back. These boundaries are not hard-core, do-or-die boundaries, they are simply boundaries that will prevent you from gaining weight while allowing your body to slowly lose. Boundaries we will consider are portion sizes, portion allowances, calorie allowances, carbohydrate amounts, or exercise sessions. Whatever you chose should leave you with a feeling of confidence that it will allow you to lose wieght and you can follow it on a daily basis without worry.
-
We will also work on setting up a SMART goal and…
