How to Lose Weight Effectively – Acceptance
If you read the last post you know that this year I will be teaching you how to effectively lose weight by giving up the weight loss battle. It seems counterintuitive at first glance but it is actually very logical and obeys an important law of nature — for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that if we force ourselves to lose weight fast, we can expect a rebounding weight struggle equal to the amount of resistance we initially created. If you ever worked out like a madman for a week then sat on the couch unwilling to move for a week you know what I am talking about.
We are going to focus on how to lose weight effectively by lowering our resistance to weight loss so we can effectively lose weight. In order to do this we must accept a few things:
• It is important that we understand that our thoughts and beliefs play an important role in shaping our habits and behaviors. We will always act in congruence with our thoughts. Henry Ford is famous for saying, “If you think you can or you think you can’t you are probably right.” If you want to learn how to lose weight effectively, you must change your internal dialogue. If you are saying to yourself, “losing weight isn’t worth the effort because you will just gain it all back”, then your chances of successfully reaching your goal are slim at best.
If you have struggled with your weight then I guarantee that you have some faulty thinking going on. We always act in congruence with our thoughts so I need you to accept that there is no room for negative thoughts or self-talk and that you are completely worthy and deserving of a happy, healthy life.
• Next, accept that everything you need to lose weight effectively is already inside of you. You don’t need to be smarter or get a different body or mind. You don’t need to wait for life to slow down or until you have enough money to hire a personal trainer. You already have all the power, patience, strength, persistence and commitment in you right now to effectively lose weight.
• Accept that the current condition of your body is exactly the way it is supposed to be. This one might seem hard to swallow but think about this. If you accept the first statement above which basically states that our thoughts and our beliefs strongly influence our habits and behaviors and this lead to the results we see, then you would have to accept that your body’s current condition is nothing more than a result of the thoughts, beliefs, habits and behaviors you have had up till now.
Now don’t misunderstand, this doesn’t mean you have to be thrilled with your body and it doesn’t mean that you can’t change the things you are not thrilled about. In fact, true and pure acceptance of your body will have the opposite effect. Think about this analogy, if you drive a 20 year old car that is falling apart and full of rust are you going to take it to the car wash every week and change the oil regularly? It seems silly, why invest a lot of time and energy into fixing up something you hate? The same goes for your body, if you hate your body and call yourself names because you are so disgusted by how you look, why would you treat your body with kindness by providing it with healthy foods, proper rest, and exercise? When we learn to fully appreciate our body we naturally start to treat it with more respect and this is how to lose weight effectively.
• Accept that you have the ability to do more. The human body is a miraculous machine that is capable of so much. If you currently do not exercise at all, I want you to accept the fact that you could begin tomorrow to exercise regularly and find the best exercise to lose weight, if you already exercise regularly I want you to accept, without a doubt, that you could run or walk in a race and so on. The same acceptance without doubt goes with weight. If you are not at the weight you want to be, accept that you can be and you will be.
Your acceptance is very important because when you want to learn how to lose weight effectively you need to rise above the problem, because when we don’t control your negative thoughts, when you don’t believe you have what it takes to change, when you don’t accept your current condition, or when you are riddled with doubt about your ability to succeed you are not free to experience true weight loss.
