Need to StickK to Your Goal?

Having trouble solidifying your commitment?  Why not Put a contract out on yourself with the help of the innovative website StickK.com

     Their mission…

stick: promotes healthier and happier living by helping people achieve their personal goals through the signing of Commitment Contracts.  Happier people = happier world!

How does StickK intend to help you…

…by providing a place for you to sign a contract, encouraging yourself to commit to and meet your goal.

The idea was started by a Yale University Economics Professor, Dean Karlan.  Karlan had good experience using contracts himself to lose weight and maintain that weight loss (Read his interesting personal story).   He later joined forces with two other academic/entrepreneurial minds, Ian Ayres and Jordan Goldberg and StickK.com was born.

The contract idea is based on two well established premises:

  1. People don’t always do what they claim they will to do.
  2. Incentives get people to act.

What you do is sign-up on the website www.stickK.com by filling out a rather standard membership form then Make a Commitment.

You can commit to lose weight, maintain weight, quit smoking, exercise regularly or customize a goal.  The twist is that you can put something up for stake.  For instance, if you don’t reach your goal you will be billed a dollar amount that you specify that will either go to…get this!…1) a charity you support, 2) a charity you don’t support, 3) a friend or foe, or 4) you can play it safe and not put any money on it.  Would you find added incentive to succeed if you knew failing meant that your worst enemy was going to get YOUR money?  Interesting concept don’t you think?
