Is Dieting Something You Do “FOR” Your Body or “TO” Your Body
Have you backed yourself into a corner when it comes to dieting? Has it become something you do only when you “have to” or because you are mad at yourself for overeating or getting too fat. It is a self-inflicted punishment for being so bad.
When this is how dieting is approached the outcome is usually poor. It is hard to achieve a positive change when you begin with a negative motive. The alternative is to consider going on a diet FOR your body.
Is your body important enough to you to feed it fruits and vegetables each day? Do you think it would be thankful if it didn’t have to work so hard to break down a bunch the fatty and processed foods. Do you appreciate your body enough to give it plenty of water each day?
We have gotten lost in the world of dieting and we have gotten so focused on how to manipulate our food choices and our calorie intake that we have lost sight of what our body really wants. You reach for the cookie and chips without a single thought about what your body must now do with these foods; once it is past your lips it is out-of-mind and no longer of concern…but maybe it should be.
Your body and brain run on fats, carbohydrates, proteins, water, vitamins and minerals. That is the fuel your body uses that allows you to get up in the morning, tie your shoes, go to work, play with your kids, enjoy being with your friends, drive your car and get a good nights sleep. It runs on whatever fuel you provide it. If you want better performance feed it better fuel.
Why not start a diet FOR your body? Why not feed it good food and/or less food for no reason other than you really appreciate all the things it does for you. And one last thing, if your diet has been poor up until this point, you have trained your body to survive on a poor diet; therefore, be patient with it as it re-learns how to process new, healthy foods, be aware that it might signal cravings for junk food or that you might feel tired for a couple of weeks, this is because you have changed it’s fuel source, work through this short period knowing that you are working toward a healthy life and you will soon experience a new level of energy and very few cravings.
You will accomplish great things when you start to truly appreciate your body; treat it with kindness and respect and it will return the favor — guaranteed.
