I WAS LOSING BUT NOW MY WEIGHT WON’T BUDGE!

It is frustrating when you think you have your weight loss problem “figured out” and then out of the blue everything that worked in the past stops working.

Weight loss can be a very delicate balance and the body is wonderful at adapting to new regimens so what you did in the past can still work but you might need to refresh your approach a little.

To get the scale moving again, the first thing I would suggest is to record everything you eat and drink until you begin to see your weight drop on a consistent basis again. Also record your calorie intake and use this as a baseline (in other words if you weight isn’t dropping then drop your calorie intake). This will keep you accurate and let you know exactly where you stand and this simple strategy is many times enough to get you losing again.

Also watch out for Thought Barriers, a common one I see with clients who are successful at losing weight then stall is a thought similar to this, “This body of mine better lose weight.” or “This stupid body of mine, first it loses weight and then it doesn’t.” So a battle starts to erupt between you and your body and you are going to “make” your body change on “your” terms.

If you relate to the last paragraph, the reality is that your body will lose weight only if you begin to work with it, this means you must CANCEL thoughts that lead to self-sabotaging behavior like the ones above and replacing them with thoughts that support your efforts.

No matter what you set out to achieve, weight loss included, there is always a “mental” component involved. Instead of telling yourself why your efforts are not going to work, tell yourself why they will, “My weight loss has stalled but that can’t stop me from eating well today.”

Allow your mind to shift to thoughts of how amazing your body is, after all it pumps your blood, digests your food, and keeps you breathing all without asking!

This is a good place to start – If you record your food intake, come to a place of understanding with your body, keep your eating consistent and maybe throw in some exercise the weight will come off.

  • I have found that now that I’m older I need to lift weights. I started going to the gym and using the Universal Machines. At first my weight loss slowed down but then after about a month I started to feel really good in my body and my weight seemed to come off easier. Still had to watch what I ate but I think my metabolism went up.
