TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT…THAT IS THE QUESTION

You have probably heard the “old rule” that says you should not eat after 7PM.

Well, this hard-and-fast rule is starting to soften.

The new thought about eating at night is…

It is not as important WHEN you eat as WHAT and HOW MUCH.

So you don’t have to completely deny yourself food in the evenings but you do have to make smart choices.

What is a smart choice?

Any food that when eaten does NOT spike your insulin level – this seems to be the key to whether that food turns into body fat or gets used up as energy.

What happens when you eat something that causes a rise in insulin?

  1. Your ability to burn fat takes a nose dive (not good)
  2. Your ability to store fat increases (really not good)

Alright, I know your next question…Which foods cause a spike in insulin?

Mainly we are talking about carbohydrates. And the more processed and refined the carb is the quicker it digests and the more intense your insulin spikes.

Now I know what you are thinking…You are thinking that carbs are what you crave at night – right?

Well, if this is true for you then you are not alone. Many of us crave carbs at night – but why?

Because carbs tend to have a calming effect on the brain and that is the problem with late night snacking.

Too often we use snacking at night to help us cope with the stresses that built up during our day or to tranquilize any uncomfortable feelings (anxiety, boredom, loneliness, stress, anger…) that we are feeling.

If your late night snacking is sabotaging your weight loss efforts then I would like you to check out my report, Late Night Snacking – How to Outsmart the Late Night Snack Attack.

Inside you will find 9 strategies, most of which you can start using tonight, that will help you set livable boundaries for your nighttime eating (i.e. learn how to snack smart), show you how to modify your behaviors so you find making the right choices a breeze and there are even two strategies to help you drop your emotional “need” for late night eating.

You can read more about it here.

Imagine the freedom of entering the evening hours without the overwhelming compulsion to eat. It is possible, others are doing it and now you can to.
